Be Content

I'm sporting this season's upgrade of last season's boots, and a buckle (or suede) never loses.  I'd rather be wearing flats, but freezing my toes off is not something we bother with in this state.  My Gap (RED) sweater has served me well  over the years, and brings just enough holiday feel to the office.  Ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday tomorrow, I included a quote I've had for the last 5 years about being content.  Be content; it's Thanksgiving!

Jumbled Hair & Flags

Today is a jumbled day with Post-It flags and a funky dry-air Midwest hair day.  It's time to pull up the boot straps and get as much done as humanly possible because tomorrow will fly by and then it'll be Thanksgiving Day!  Fuggetabout the turkey, because I'm ready for pie. Lots and lots of pie and a little bit of soaking up my hometown.

Black on White

If ever a time, when layering in winter, it's time to bust out the textures.  Cold hard metal, off-white scrolls, and fluffy sweaters with faux-leather boots are what. is. needed. when it's 30-40F outside.  I brought in a ink painting on rice paper from my Chinese calligraphy teacher to cover a hole in the wall. And the textures go, even if it's all black on white.

Silver Loves Purple

We have yet another dreary day (no rays of sunshine), but I still stuck to my favorite shades of violet.  I mixed it with lighter shades of purple and heavy silvery accents.  Coughs are every where, but they say an apple a day keeps you healthy.  It doesn't hurt to have bottle of hand sanitizer everywhere either!

Chambray Polka

I was on the fence, but now I see the diverse laundry list of colors and textures that polka dots get along with well.  Chambray is not office-wear per say, but they can mingle with maroon, bulky sweaters, and sweet little silver chain necklaces flawlessly.  I added a peek at my snack drawer (and sometimes only source of lunch!) and am realizing it super needs to be replenished soon.

Django Lip Service

Django is the man.  Not the man in the Tarantino movie, but the gypsy jazz man.  You should check it out, because it makes for great work music that lasts you the entire day.  I appreciate frocks with pockets, so let's make that about what's important here.  My re-purposed Birchbox has at least 7 different lip balms so I'm never without.

Tartan and Tape

I probably have five different kinds of tape and rollers in various cabinets, because lint is trying to be my bff during the work day.  It must be the dry air the Midwest gets that does it.  Classic red tartan puts me in the 'tis the season mood.  I welcome it a little more each year.

Dark Details

My favorite dark hardware is a bracelet that almost is a cross between a cuff and a gauntlet and I heart it (check out that reflection).  I'm also sporting another handmade stone necklace (from India) that I wish I could find in more colors.  Hanging in my office is a "haunted memories" detailed pic from the 2013 San Diego Comic Con: it looks innocent from one angle and then freaky from this one.

Metal and Tape

Winter = layer, layer, layer.  You never realize how heavy the plated bib necklaces are until you've been wearing one for an hour.  I have a sneak peak of one junk (necessity!) drawer, which I have to dig through for a while when I run out of tape.   Hopefully, it'll be more organized the next time you see it!

Happy Tea

One of my favorite jade necklaces was hand carried all the way back from a colleague's trip to China.  It reads Happiness, and goes great with a chunky knit today.  I have a tea kit in my office, given as another gift, and I wish it included more Jasmine Green Tea because it's the best.  Oh, and still use the old school adding machine w/tape to get me through some heavy account wrangling.

Sunshiney Day

The sun behind me, and above my head helps with the blah-ness of winter creeping into a very bland office.  The blinds and wall color and ceiling all match (oh my!).  Some purple tights actually help keep me warm and remind me of days of old; when I played roller derby.  And these Isaac Mizrahi bow-ties on brocade keep me warm!

Alligator with Pearls

I matched an alligator (vintage Lacoste) with pearls and flats with tiny herringbone patterned detail.  Without getting technical, I like to say anything 'as old' or 'older' than I am is vintage. So in a few years, my Houlihan's (home of the nooner) coaster collection might be vintage as well.

Pink and Panda

Cozy electric pink with a Dark & Stormy polish (pinkie only, thanks Carson Daly), some panda butt on my tea cup: all the things to get me through Monday morning.  And don't forget the coffee.  The loads of coffee.

Muted Details

Filing and more filing going on.  But I needed just a pop of color, and I'm now forecasting that my tights collection will have to stay in line with my cardigan collection.  Such is the life when you insist on wearing skirts and never short sleeves (because you must) in the office.

Brighter Days

I am sporting four different solids and it's okay because everything seems to come to a head on Thursdays.  It's the last hard-focused day before reveling in the fact that tomorrow is the last work day of the week.  Sunshine found my envelope trays, stacked with 8 different letter sizes for every day uses.

Sharp Edges

It feels cold enough to freeze here today, and somehow the ground is still green out.  I brought a little bit of gold and some sharp edges with me today.  I feel like the heavy metal and patterned details play up the black tights and black flats normalcy of my uniform.

Green Around the Edges

Someone noticed today I have a bunch of green around the office.  I adopt the cast-off plants that people discard when they grow too large for their planters.  I enjoy having some living things around that might enjoy having a windowed office as much as me.
